WWAMI PROGRAM

The WWAMI program is a partnership in medical education associated with the University of Washington’s Medical School and four northwestern states with no medical schools (Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho). WWAMI’s mission is to ensure opportunities for college graduates from these states to attend medical school and have a portion of their medical education in their respective states in an effort to try to encourage them to return to those states after they have completed their medical education.

The WWAMI program began in late 1972. InterMountain Medical Clinic (then known as Family Practice Group) became involved in 1975 and continues to provide teaching in Family Medicine as a requirement for graduation from medical school.

The medical students in the clinic are in their third year of medical school. They spend five weeks in Pocatello and one week in Montpelier, Idaho with Dr. Noall Wolff. They also spend time with the Idaho State University Residency Training Program in family medicine. This provides the opportunity to see what Family Practice physicians and others do in the private practice which helps them formulate their future plans and decisions involving their choice of specialty.

The students and providers at InterMountain Medical Clinic are extremely grateful to the people in Pocatello and Montpelier for allowing them to participate in their care while receiving educational instruction.
